For example, what if on the job we refused to listen to our boss when they say that protocols and operations were to change? Well if we remain non-teachable it could cost us our job. Or for example what if while driving we got pulled over for "rolling" though a stop sign. I mean that has never happened to any of us, right? So what if you told the officer who stopped you that you had no plans to change how you drive and that his pulling you over wouldn't make any difference. Well I can only imagine the outcome of that scenario, but I can't see it going to well.
So let's face it, we are all approached with many teachable opportunities each day whether we see it or not. But sometimes we can forget that we need to remain teachable to the things that God is wanting to do in our lives. That's why I love this verse in
Psalm 119:33-34
"Teach me, O Lord, the way of Your statutes, and I shall keep it to the end.
Give me understanding,
and I shall keep Your law;
Indeed, I shall observe it
with my whole heart."
He we see that we are to seek the Lord to teach us. God has given us His Word, His unchanging, powerful, live-giving, eternal, living, thought discerning, Holy, anointed Word, and He has given it to us so that we can get to know Him through it. He is our teacher and we are the student, and wow he has a lot of patience with us.
We can seek God for understanding and wisdom for all areas of our life, and His word promises that when we seek Him, we will find Him. But this all comes back are we being teachable? Are we open to hear what the Lord is wanting to speak to us? Are we in His Word daily learning from Him and letting Him teach us? In a world where there is so much confusion and chaos, I'm so glad we have the solid Word of God that we can stand on.
I've been challenged lately to have a soft heart and to be teachable. Let's come to the Lord and seek Him to teach us the way of His statutes that we might live them out with our whole heart.
-Joyfull in those teachable moments of life
